Glycerine is a completely natural and vegetarian liquid sometimes used for extracting herbs. It is generally made by splitting the fat molecule of organic coconut, palm, or olive oil. It is naturally sweet and is suitable for children, pets, and people who are allergic to alcohol or who for other reasons prefer not to consume anything containing alcohol. The pros and cons of which form substance to use as a menstruum are weighty, but people should be aware that the shelf life of glycerites is less than that of alcohol extracts so the products should be consumed within 1-2 years.

Maude Grieve states that the unripe nut has "worm-destroying virtues." Ergo, the idea that black walnut is an effective vermicide did not originate with Hulda Clark or Hanna Kroeger or any of the more controversial figures of the end of the 20th century. It belongs to an ancient herbal tradition in which it was one of the preferred herbs for round and tape worms.
